Hi, Thanks for the informative post. I had my (fathers)process submited in 2006. Is there a possibility to speed it up.

Goanewz said...

First call the Conservatoria dos Registos Centrais and ask them for updates on your process. The phones numbers is +351 213 817 600. The other option is to use the services of an attorney. The attorney will charge you 50 -100 euros to get the detailed information on your process and guide you accordingly. All the best. Goanewz

Helen,
The copies from the central library are of no use to submit as the original document. If your process is submited than its very easy to complete it. Check with the school if they still have your fathers birth certificate. The birth certificate is in the original form. If you need help e-mail to goanewz@gmail.com.
Hope this helps. All the best!

Every interested applicant should write officially to Conservatoria dos Registos Centrais requesting the Conservador to finalise their pending transcription of birth or marriage. Send the letter by a secure mail.( Speed post )

Do not be in a rush to receive response within a month. It will take a minimum of 6 months. You should definitely get a letter stating that your process has been concluded. Assento de nascimento might be sent to you at your address or in the Portuguese Consulate. Irrespective of whether one has given Procuração to lawyer or not. Your Attorney will not be informed. I have helped my friends in such cases.
The agents or the lawyer in Portugal are exploiting the Goan people to the maximum. One is a so called lawyer who knew some Officials working in Registo Centrais. To our good luck one such corrupt auxiliary conservator was sacked. The new legislations being enforced in Portugal from 1st Jan 2007 emphasises the relaxed simple civil procedures. To further add to it, all those born in Antigo Estado da India (Goa ) before 1961 who wish to conserve their Portuguese Nationality can send such declarations along with the necessary documentation directly to Registos Centrais. All documents should be attested by the Portuguese Consulate or Ministry of External Affairs ( Apostils of Hague Convention signed by Portugal on 6th of October 1961 in Paris) Apostils attestations in New Delhi. Either of it.

The present legislations followed in Portugal are Regulamento da Nacionanlide- Decreto lei no 237-A/2006, 14 de Dezembro and Lei Organica no 2/2006
And ofcourse Codigo Civil de 1867, and Decreto Lei no 2098/59 in some cases. Decreto-Lei 308-A/75 as projected on the Consulate website in Goa is no longer followed in Portugal. It has been revoked in 1977.

I urge Goans who read this message to inform fellow Goans, especially those who are illiterate not to borrow money on loan for such simple procedures.
The employees at the Portuguese Consulate will not give such information to Goans as it affects their so called behavioural hierarchy. The documentation demanded from them is useless. Some of it goes into their bins. For instance Police clearance certificates and many such documents for different procedures. They invent their own Rules. I should tell them to get elected to the Constituent Assembly in Portugal to enact any such regulations of their dream.

There is no such requirement as Antigo document or old document in Registos Centrais. All the old Nationality processes are being finalised day by day.

Finally let me inform everbody that we do not apply for a Portuguese Passport as such but we apply to conserve our original Portuguese Nationality. Attributions and acquisitions of nationality to those born after 1961.

I can be of assistance to anybody in need.

1. My parents were married in 1970 , how long would it take to get the marriage registered ?

2. What's next , I am born in 1973 how do I get my Portuguese passport ?

Goa said...

1.It can take 6 - 9 months. If the papers are submited in Portugal it takes 10 days
2. If the papers are submited in Goa it takes 7 - 12 months. If the papers are submited in Portugal it takes 2 months.

I also have my granfathers birth and marriage teor. please let me know if this will help

After several years of "processing" my grandmother's birth was registered. We filed for her BI and am expecting a note from the consulate to collect the same any moment now. On receiving he BI I wish to proceed with Marriage registeration. My wife will be based in Belgium from Nov 09 to May 10 and during this period I would like to complete most of the processing ( i.e grandparents and parents). Please could you let me know what information you need and I can email you separately on the same? Thanks very much.

I must say, this is an excellent site!!!
I shall strive to enlighten as many goan people by directing them to this site and create awareness against the agent culprits.

Way back in 2006, I received an appointment letter from the consulate in Panjim and paid some amount for registration. Now after 3 years, the agent is asking me for an old document for identification.

1. Shouldn't I have received an intimation directly from the authorities asking for the document? I have not received any form of communication either from the agent or the authorities but got to know about this via the agent, that too only after having contacted him recently.

2. Is it possible that the agent recieves intimation from his lawyer? Is this true?

3. is it possible to check status of process on the goa consulate website? Agent says it is not possible as process is filed directly in Portugal by his lawyer. Is this true?

Would really appreciate some answers.

Goa said...

1. If you have given the Power of Attorney than the agent's lawyer will receive all the communication. You can cancel the same and ask for communication to sent to your given addess.

3. There is no facility to check the status of your application on any websites. If you wish to I can get you the latest updates and complete the process with out the old documents. Send an e-mail to www.goanewz.blogspot.com for more information.

My Father's Birth has been registered in Portugal. He is now applying for his BI in Goa and my parents Marriage Registeration in Portugal. I have 2 questions:

1. Does my mothers birth need to be registered in Portugal as well for the Marriage registeration?
2. I am resident in the USA, Can I apply for my Portuguese passport in the USA once my parents process completes?

Goa said...

If you live in the USA than you can apply for your parents marriage transcription along with your birth transcription. Its waste of time and money when you apply for your parents marriage in Portugal.

Hi, i wanted to know if mother passport having two surname( Like fernandes e Rodrigues )accepted by CRC.
Next, do i need to write in portuguese for consulate in goa for appointment.

Goa said...

The name doesnot matter, the Portuguese Authorities understand the situation also it is helpful if you write a small cover letter explaining the situation on the name change. The appointment can be requested in English. Since you live in Kuwait its advisable to use the services of the Portuguese Embassy in Saudi it much more helpful and quicker.

Hi,
Thanks for this very informative post & believe that it helps a lot for the Goan people. Can you help me in finding the status on my parents process which was initiated in 2004-05? The initial held up according to our agent was due to unavailibility of old document which is not a requirement according to this post & came to know in Feb this year. In lieu of that, our agent asked my grandfathers birth which we obtained/found in archives. It was submitted to our agent in March 2010 and after to & fro process from New Delhi, it was submitted in portugal on 13 July(according to agent). We already paid our agent money for registration which according to this post is not required if born before 1961. Is our agent doing the right thing?

Goa said...

The money paid are for his services I guess. If the documents were submited in July I suggest you to wait for 3 more months for the process to complete. You can send them an e-mail (the address is mentioned on the blog) to check on the status of your application.
