Investments in Goa – India Growth Story

Last couple of day the news channels are shouting on top of their voices that we have entered in a bull market, India can maintain the already published growth. I did some research on this subject and after analyzing the data, I can see only the analysts and economist predicting the growth story.

If you look at the data of Reverse Repo, it has crossed 100K crore everyday. The data shows a deposit of 133K crore and a credit of 38k crore. This mean the banks are feeling safe to park the money with RBI in spite of losing 0.25%. RBI offers an interest rate of 3.25% and the banks give its customer an interest rate of 3.50% on saving.

Warren Buffet one of the famous investor in our times says
http://www.cnbc.com/id/31526130
1. The economy is in shambles
2. There are no green shoots visible yet
Maybe He is talking about US companies due to his large presence in the US companies but if US sneezes than India catches a cold (business wise).

Kris of Infosys (I find one company who management is very ethical) says:
The only signs of growth are coming from media and analysts but there is nothing coming from the Clients.

These days you will find many agents of AMC (asset management companies) calling your home trying to sell their dreams, kindly read tru their offer documents and understand the market before any investments. Best is to ask the agents to do the calculations on excel or papers first before investing. The only safe investment now I can see is bank FD or any liquid fund.

Goa Tourism – Medical Tourism

on Monday, April 27, 2009

Medical tourism has a huge potential many Goan doctors majority dentist have out shop along the coastal side of Goa. I know many who has shut shops in the cities and moved to the coastal areas. This is a wise move on investment part. The recent article on Insurance companies making a provision for medical tourism has created a lot of interest for tourist. They can combine relaxation with treatment, " Peter Kelly" a long time tourist from England said he will definitely speak to his insurance company about this program which will save the money he spend on his treatment in Goa.

We as public can participate in this move also. We know insurance companies will tie up with big hospitals chains like Apollo, Fortis to name some. Apollo Hospital has a market cap of roughly Rs2300.0cr and Fortis around Rs.1500cr. It will be a good investment if we start accumulating the stocks of these companies so that we too do not miss the bus of Medical Tourism in Goa.

Fortis has plans to expand to 40 hospitals by 2012, plans to by Wockardt Hospital, and has lined up the resources for this. Medical Tourism is a long-term story and the currents prices of these stocks are very appealing. Medical Tourism stocks are necessary for any longtime investors

Goa Tourism – Medical Tourism

on Thursday, April 23, 2009

Medical tourism in Goa has been more of a noise than action. Few medicos have foresight of the mass potential Goa Medical Tourism Holds. Goa has its own pristine world famous beaches, which are, visited by many tourists all round the year. Few years ago, patients had to come on their own expense to avail the medical facilities here in Goa, but in recent time, many Health Insurance Companies outside India have programs, that offer Medical Tourism as part of their benefit programs.
The article signifies the acceptance of Medical Tourism by Insurance Companies and this move will bring massive growth to the industry.

Why the Indian markets are geared for a deep fall! 1. Yen is getting stronger every day 2. Pound is messed up. If Bank of England prints more currency than it will devalue the pound. 3. Europe is likely to cut the interest rates this march and it will depreciate the Euro. 4. US stocks will fall as the bonds rally in the US. 5. Our own economy is in a slump 6. There is a high possibility of Reliance giving -ve results.

Budget 2009 - Interim Budget

The Interim budget 2009 presented by the Interim Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee was a damp squib and was an entertainment to the TV channels only. No sops for reality nor tax sops. The only good this about the budget was the extension the interest subsides to the debt ridden farmers. The fiscal deficit was going to be 5.5% and the projected shortfall will not be financed from markets. Will Goa maintain its projected growth?

Goa News - Investments

Suzlon the company generating wind power for domestic and industrial consumption. A quick look at the currents Q3 results and the technical's suggest this is a good time to invest in Suzlon. Any investor who has patience will collect this stock at current levels. The groups consolidated revenues are up by 117%. I would say buy at current price for decent gains.

Goa News - BSNL Landline & Broadband Plans

Watch out for the reviews of the BSNL land line & Internet broadband plans. Which is the most efficient and  inexpensive.

Goa Investors - LIC's Jeevan Aastha

LIC's newest policy was able to collect over Rs. 8000cr inspite of LIC promising the real returns to be 4% - 7.32%. The 10% guaranteed returns promised by your friendly agent was just a marketing gimmick to make it look like a worthy investment. PPF gives you an interest of 8% compounded which is still better than Jeevan Aastha, the 0.068% calculated for 10yrs will work to be Rs.3000.00 for Rs.25000.00 of investment.

Jeevan Aastha looks good only if you plan to lock your money for the next 10yrs, this means you will not have liquidity for the next 10yrs and if interests rates go up than you will miss the bus, unless you choose to pay the 10% exit load to break your Jeevan Aastha policy before the term period.

If you ask me I would never lock my money for next 10yrs as a lot can happen in the next 10yrs. Maybe LIC can go bust just like UTI - 64. UTI was also guaranteed by the government. The tax laws can change.

The other option to this would be to invest in Bhavishya Nirman bonds (NABARD) which provide a 8.5% returns post taxes or 8.29% after taxes which are also guaranteed by the government. The funny part is LIC can invest your money in these bonds and make profits at your cost.

ULIP's - Analyze yourself

on Tuesday, May 20, 2008

https://www.hdfcinsurance.com/products/pdfs/Unit%20Linked%20Young%20Star%20Plus.pdf
If you take a closer look at the allocation charges only 40% (for premium less than two lac)  of your premium is allocated towards the buying of the units and the remaining 60% of your premium is paid as commission. Furthermore any lay man who deposits (FD) his money in any nationalized bank is looking forwards to withdraw the principle + interest. But with ULIP the investor will not even assured to get his principle invested back in the first year or the following years.

HDFC Unlit Linked Young Star Plus
Premium Allocation charges: (for premium less than 2lac)
For the first year 40% of your premium is allocated towards purchase of the units and 60%of your premium  is used to pay commission to your friendly agent and all who are involved in this process. In other words you are paying this 60% of your hard earned money which you feel will generate more income for your future at retirement as a kind gesture to letting you to invest  in their company.

Fund Management Charge:
In the above mentioned offer document the charges are 0.8% per annum of the fund value(sum assured). This looks less but try to add this in the final results.
Other charges:
(A). Fund administration charges which is this case is Rs.20/month or Rs.240/yr
(B). Mortality & Other charges: Which are between 1 -2 % which keep on increasing with your age. (1.5% for 30yr of age approx. value)
A low risk ULIP gives an annual return of 8-10%. Let's do some simple calculations
Commission paid:
60% / 20 years = 3% per year we pay commission upfront  plus 1% more from the second year forward
0.80% as Fund Management Charges
.024% as Fund Administration charges
1.5% as Mortality Charges & Other charges
If you calculate all this its works to 4%(3% + 1%) + .80% + .024% + 1.5% = 6.32%
The fund company takes more than what is paid to you.

Suppose the fund gives an annual return of 10% the best return a liquid fund gives you will only get 4.68% return on your fund value.
The above calculation is for HDFC ULIP Plans almost all the ULIP plans come up with the same results.

TO SUM IT UP ASK YOUR FRIENDLY AGENT TO GIVE IN WRITING THE PROJECTED ANNUAL RETURNS AND SEE WHAT IS HIS ANSWER.
